Pediatric Meduloblastoma and the Prognostic Value of MIB-1 Proliferative Factor

چکیده مقاله:

Background: Medulloblastoma is the most common malignant brain tumor in children. The important factors in predicting survival are the extent of disease, proliferation index of the tumor cells, histopathologic class and the age at diagnosis. The percentage of Ki-67 positive cells reflects the proliferation  of the cells and is one of the critical factors which determine the growth of the tumor. Monoclonal MIB-1 antibody can be targeted against recombinant Ki-67 and then demonstrated by immunohistochemical methods. Materials and Methods: Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue of 18 pediatric patients with medulloblastoma at Mofid Children Hospital between January 2003 and December 2008 were used to perform Ki-67 (MIB-1) immunohistochemical analysis. Proliferative labeling index (LI ) was scored in the tumor cells to determine the extent of proliferation. Results: The mean±SD of MIB-1 LI index was 53%±21% (range 25% to 85%). Kaplan–Meier curves showed that patients with MIB-1 LI 40%  (p=0.04). This difference remained statistically significant in Cox regression analysis. Conclusion: We suggest that MIB-1 LI is helpful as a prognostic factor in predicting survival of patients with pediatric medulloblastoma.

Prognostic value of MIB-1, p53, epidermal growth factor receptor, and INI1 in childhood chordomas.

BACKGROUND Chordomas are slow-growing tumors and most commonly involve the sacrum and clivus. Multiple recurrences are frequent. Childhood chordomas are rare and often show exceptionally aggressive behavior, resulting in short survival and a high incidence of metastatic spread. OBJECTIVE This study examined the histologic features and immunohistochemical profile of pediatric chordomas and com...

Insights into the prognostic value of DJ-1 and MIB-1 in astrocytic tumors

BACKGROUND The histological grade is the gold standard for the evaluation of prognosis of astrocytic tumors. Nevertheless, morphologic criteria are not always accurate prognostic indicators. AIM The research investigates the expression of MIB-1 and DJ-1 in different grades of astrocytomas and evaluates the possible prognostic role of DJ-1 in these tumors in relation to other prognostic parame...

Medulloblastoma: evaluation of proliferative index by monoclonal antibody Mib-1, its prognostic correlation and therapeutic implications.

In the past few years, the monoclonal antibody MIB-1 has been used by researchers in order to retrospectively study paraffin imbibed tumor fragments. The medulloblastoma is the most common malignant central nervous system tumor in childhood. The objectives were: determination of the mean Mib-1 LI value from these patients, as well as the prognostic value of the method. This retrospective study ...

THE VALUE OF PONDERAL INDEX AS A PROGNOSTIC FACTOR IN PREDICTING COMPLICATIONS IN TERM NEONATES

Rohrer's ponderal index in newborns (birth weight * 100/height3) has been used as an indicator of fetal growth status, especially to assess asymmetrical intrauterine growth retardation. Low ponderal index or disproportionate intrauterine growth retardation has higher neonatal morbidity and there are some specific guidelines in intrauterine growth retarded infants to control some of their pr...
